Growing Guide: How to Grow Arisaema

Commonly known as Cobra Lily or Jack in the Pulpit, the Arisaema is an unusual plant with umbrella-like blooms that are supported by its tall, strong stems. Blooming in early summer, these excellent flowers will thrive in partial-shade and well-draining soil. The rich burgundy colored bloom with white stripes will create a fantastic, eye-catching display in the summer garden.

How to Plant

  • Find a spot with partial-shade and well-draining soil.
  • Work the soil well to loosen any compacted areas.
  • You may incorporate compost or leaf mold for extra nutrition.
  • Plant the Arisaema bulbs 4-6" inches deep.
  • Water lightly after planting to settle.

How to Care

  • Keep your plants lightly moist, but not wet, throughout the growing season.
  • Use a thick mulch to provide insulation throughout the winter.
  • Withhold watering in the winter months and keep them dry.
