How to Grow Hostas

Hostas are shade-loving perennials that can transform any shaded garden into a greenscape that looks vibrant from spring to fall. Setting them apart from other perennials is the rich and colorful foliage that they are mostly chosen for. In addition to their thick bouquet of leaves, Hostas also bloom soft bell shaped flowers in the summer.

How to Plant Hostas

  1. Choose a suitable spot with partial shade.
  2. Use rich and fertile soil, well-draining soil.
  3. Space them 3 to 4 inches apart.
  4. Plant them 1 inch below the soil.
  5. Water frequently enough to keep the soil moist.

To plant Hostas in containers, follow the same steps. Small and medium sized Hostas are excellent choices for planting in pots, and can accentuate any patio, walkway, or even indoor spaces. For larger sized Hostas, keep in mind that planting them in a container means they're more likely to grow smaller rather than to their full potential as they would in the garden.
