Planting Area Calculator (Or How Many Bulbs Do I Need?)

One of the most frequent questions that we hear from our customers is 'How do I know how many bulbs to plant?' So, if you're also trying to figure this out, you're not alone! Fortunately, it's usually a simple calculation and our planting area calculator below will handle most of the math for you. All you need is a measuring stick and a paper and pencil to jot down the measurements.

STEP ONE: Determine the number of square feet in your planting area

Here's where you're going to need that measuring stick. Choose the shape that best fits your planting area, measure as directed, then enter the measurements in the calculator.

STEP TWO: Determine the number of square feet in your plantimg area

Using the planting chart below, take the answer in square feet from step one and multiply it by how many bulbs can be planted per square foot for the variety you are looking at. For example: if you are planting tulips and you have 7 square feet of planting space, multiply that by 5 (# of tulip bulbs per aquare foot) and you will know that you will need to plant 35 tulip bulbs.

Still stuck? Have an unusual planting space that is difficult to calculate?
