Sternbergia
What makes the sternbergia unusually interesting is the fact that they are located in only a dozen or so isolated spots that are scattered unevenly throughout Israel. Each site is only a few dunams in size, but the flowers grow so densely together and at such a specific time period that during the season the ground resembles an colorful carpet. Blossoms open in the morning, and close their eyes at night. They bloom in the Fall.
