Wax Amaryllis bulbs

Is there anything better than a stunning amaryllis to add some cheer to your holiday decor? How about a gorgeous amaryllis that needs no planting and no watering? It may sound incredible, but these beautifully decorated amaryllis bulbs are coated in protective wax which seals in all the moisture, nutrients and stored energy needed for them to grow and bloom. All that they need is light. In fact, they don’t even need a container or pot! Each wax Amaryllis has a coiled wire inserted into the base, so it can be placed as it is on any flat surface.  

Our DutchGrown wax Amaryllis bulbs are shipped in a dormant stage, and will start to bloom within 4-6 weeks of delivery. Each bulb will produce 1 or 2 stems with 4 to 5 incredible flowers. These trouble-free bulbs are perfect for everyone but make an especially ideal gift for anyone who loves flowers and plants but is too busy to look after them, or is just not terribly green-fingered. 

Some of our wax Amaryllis bulbs have a design applied directly to the wax coating. Others have a design on a knitted ‘sock’ that covers the protective wax layer of the bulb. 

How are these amazing bulbs made?

Our DutchGrown wax Amaryllis bulbs are made using a special process. The first stage is the selection - we only choose the highest quality bulbs, since they ensure the most beautiful flowers and are the only ones suitable for wax treatment. This selection takes place at the end of the summer and once the bulbs are selected, they undergo a special treatment and are then coated in a layer of wax that has been heated to a temperature that will not cause any damage to the bulb. The wax layer has a twofold purpose: firstly, to ensure the bulb doesn’t dry out and that all the essential nutrients are sealed in the bulb; secondly, for decorative purposes.

• ALL of the bulbs are encased in this protective wax coating, including the ones that come with a 'sock'.

• We start shipping our wax Amaryllis bulbs by mid October. If you would like to receive them later, you can select a preferred delivery month in the shopping cart.

• If you also like to place an order for outdoor bulbs, please place two separate orders.

• Wax Amaryllis are designed to be one-time-blooming bulbs. They are single-use amaryllis and will not bloom again in subsequent years.
