Growing Guide: How to Grow Red Hot Poker

Red Hot Poker is also known as Red Hot Poker and Torch Lily. It is a beautiful plant that can add life and color to your garden. It's easy to grow, so if you're looking for a way to brighten up your landscape but don't have much experience with gardening or plants in general, this may be the perfect option for you.

Kniphofias are native to South Africa. They have a preference for full sun, although they can tolerate some light shade, especially in hot climates. If you want to grow red hot poker for flowers, you can plant them in spring or fall. They grow best in moist but well-draining soils, but once established they can tolerate many types of soils.

Quick Guide:

  1. Choose a spot in Full Sun.
  2. Prepare well-draining soil.
  3. Dig holes 18 to 24 inches apart.
  4. Place so the crown is 3 inches deep.
  5. Cover with soil and add a 3 inch layer of compost on top.
  6. Water regularly until established.
  7. Fertilize once again each Spring.

Once the plants are established you can water them less often, but don't let them get too dry as they may stop flowering. Check out our Red Hot Poker collection to choose yours today!
