Where Can I Buy Saffron?

Saffron Is The World’s Most Valuable Spice So It’s Well Worth Growing Yourself

Unlike most other crocuses, saffron crocuses bloom in the fall, when their amethyst
petals and bright red stigmas brighten the garden just as other blooms start to
fade. Even better, you can harvest the delicious saffron spice by carefully plucking
the three scarlet stigmas. But it can be difficult to know where to buy saffron bulbs
in your neighborhood, so it’s best to turn to a specialist grower.

Where Can I Buy Saffron?

Saffron bulbs are highly sought after both for their beauty and their culinary and
health benefits. For the best results, choose large, healthy-looking bulbs that feel
heavy for their size. Saffron bulbs are not as widely available as other fall-planted
bulbs but you will sometimes see them for sale in garden centers and nurseries.

Where Can I Buy Saffron Online?

Saffron bulbs can be hard to come by so if you’re planning on growing your own
saffron, look out for online bulb specialists. They will deliver your bulbs at just the
right time for planting: saffron bulbs are planted in the fall, at least 6 weeks before
the first frost is due. They are not winter-hardy in colder locations so in climate
zones 3-5, plant the saffron bulbs in August in a pot or container and move them to
a frost-free location over the winter.

Where Can I Buy Saffron For Growing Commercially?

Saffron is a valuable crop to grow commercially. The bulbs will flower for up to 4
seasons, with the maximum yield of the spice occurring in the first and second year after planting. The saffron bulbs should be planted with 12 bulbs per square foot and an online bulb supplier will be able to supply you with whatever number of bulbs you require.

Saffron bulbs are easy to grow and look fabulous. Head over to our saffron crocus collection where you will find large, healthy bulbs in perfect condition for planting.
