Aconitum (Monkshood)

Aconitum, also known as Monkshood, is a striking perennial that brings rich color to the late summer and early fall garden. Tall spires of deep blue or purple flowers rise above dark green foliage, giving borders a bold and elegant look when many other plants are starting to fade. The blooms have a distinctive hooded shape that makes them instantly recognizable. Monkshood grows best in cool climates with moist, well drained soil and light shade or gentle sun.
