Description

Dahlia ‘Cabana Banana’ has a completely different feel from the darker, heavier dahlias. It’s lighter, brighter, and full of movement. The petals are long and narrow with slightly pointed tips, giving it that semi-cactus look, but softer and less rigid than a true cactus type. The color is where it really comes alive. A warm, creamy yellow base blends into soft peach and blush pink tones toward the tips. As the flower opens, the center glows with a deeper golden hue, while the outer petals fade into lighter, almost pastel shades. It feels fresh rather than bold. The blooms are medium to large, usually around five to seven inches across, and held on strong stems that keep them upright even as they fully open. Plants typically grow to about 36 to 42 inches tall and flower steadily from midsummer right through to the first frost if regularly cut.
In the garden, ‘Cabana Banana’ brings brightness without being overwhelming. It works especially well in softer color schemes where you want warmth without intensity. It pairs naturally with creams, pale pinks, apricots, and even light purples. Because of the petal shape, it also adds texture alongside rounder dahlias and fuller flowers.
For cutting, this is a very usable variety. The stems are long and the blooms have a relaxed, open shape that fits easily into natural-style arrangements. The color transitions make it easy to combine with a wide range of flowers without clashing.
Plant tubers in spring once the risk of frost has passed and the soil has warmed. Choose a sunny spot with well-drained soil and give plants enough space to develop. Like most taller dahlias, it’s best to stake early to support the stems as the plant grows. In colder regions of the United States, tubers should be lifted after the first frost and stored over winter.
If you’re looking for a dahlia that brings light, warmth, and a softer look into your garden, Dahlia ‘Cabana Banana’ is an easy one to work with and a welcome contrast to deeper tones.

          - Set the bulbs or bare root in place, pointed side or sprout side upward.

          - Cover the bulbs by replacing the soil and water thoroughly.
