Description

Dahlia Tsuki-Yori-No-Shisha, often called “Moonlight Messenger,” is one of the most recognizable white dahlias you can grow. It has a completely different presence from rounded or decorative types. This one is all about shape, movement, and light.  It sits in the spider dahlia group, which means long, narrow petals that twist and curl in different directions. Each bloom looks almost weightless, like it is in motion. The petals are pure white, sometimes with a faint ivory glow toward the center, and they radiate outward in a loose, open form that gives the flower a striking, sculptural quality. The blooms are large, usually around 6 to 8 inches across, and they do not hide in the foliage. They sit high on tall, strong stems that can reach 4 to 5 feet, making this a true back-of-the-border plant. It brings height and structure without feeling heavy or dense. From mid summer through the first frost, Tsuki-Yori-No-Shisha flowers steadily. It is not a one-time show. Once it gets going, it continues to push out blooms, especially if you cut regularly. The long stems and dramatic shape make it a favorite for cutting, particularly for more modern or airy arrangements where you want something with movement. In the garden, this variety behaves differently than fuller dahlias. It does not create a solid block of color. Instead, it adds texture and contrast. The white blooms catch light beautifully, especially in the evening, and the open form allows it to mix easily with grasses, perennials, or other dahlias without crowding them. Like all dahlias, it prefers full sun and well-drained soil. Plant the tubers in spring after the last frost, and it will establish quickly. Because of its height, it benefits from a bit of support, especially in windy spots, but otherwise it is straightforward to grow and very rewarding. What makes Tsuki-Yori-No-Shisha stand out is its form. It does not try to be full or traditional. Instead, it brings something lighter, more architectural, and a little unexpected. If you want a white dahlia that feels elegant but still makes a statement, this is one that delivers every single season.

          - Dig a hole to the required depth. You can find this required depth for each type of bulb, tuber or root in the growing guides.

          - Depth is measurement of space between the soil line and top of bulb or bare root.

          - Set the bulbs or bare root in place, pointed side or sprout side upward.

          - Cover the bulbs by replacing the soil and water thoroughly.
