Description
Amaryllis Quito is for gardeners who like something a little wild and different. The blooms have a dramatic, starry shape with narrow, pointed petals, giving it that spider like look often associated with cybister type Hippeastrum. Color wise, it leans deep red with green tones, so it feels bold without being the usual solid red holiday amaryllis. This variety stays nicely sized for indoor growing. Expect flower stems around 20 inches tall, making it easy to fit on a bright table or windowsill without flopping all over the place. Plant the bulb with the top portion above the soil line, set it somewhere warm and bright, and go easy on watering until you see growth. Once the stalk is moving, keep the soil lightly moist. Under typical indoor conditions, most amaryllis bloom about 6 to 12 weeks after planting, and Quito is commonly listed in a similar window, sometimes a bit longer depending on temperature and light.
Why gardeners in the USA love it
• A rare look for an amaryllis, narrow petals with a striking spider form
• Rich red with green tones, not the standard solid color
• Great for bright windows, tables, and winter color indoors
• Typically blooms about 6 to 10 weeks after planting indoors
• A conversation piece variety, especially for collectors and gift giving
Planting information
• Plant your flower bulbs in the fall or early winter
• Plant in borders or containers in sun or partial shade
• Plant the bulbs three times the size of the bulb deep. This doesn't count for Amaryllis bulbs and Peony roots.
• Space the bulbs two times the size of the bulb apart
• Plant the bulbs in well drained soil
• Plant the bulbs with the pointed side facing upwards
