Description
Dahlia ‘Maxime’ has a bold, sunlit look that feels right at home in late summer. The blooms open in a strong golden yellow and are tipped and brushed with vivid red, giving each flower a two-tone effect that changes slightly as it matures. Some blooms show more red along the edges, others stay brighter yellow, so the plant always has a bit of variation. The flowers are full and rounded, with neatly layered petals that create a classic decorative shape. They are usually around five to six inches across and sit on sturdy stems that keep them upright even as they fully open. Plants grow to about 36 to 44 inches tall and branch well, producing a steady supply of blooms from midsummer until the first frost. In the garden, ‘Maxime’ brings warmth and contrast at the same time. It works well in borders where reds, oranges, and yellows start to take over, but it can also be used to brighten deeper plantings. The two-tone petals catch the light and add movement, so it never looks flat or static. For cutting, this is a reliable variety. The stems are long and strong, and the color combination makes it easy to build lively arrangements without needing a lot of additional flowers. It adds both structure and color in one stem. Plant tubers in spring after the last frost, once the soil has warmed. Choose a sunny location with well-drained soil and give plants enough space to develop properly. Staking early helps keep the stems straight as the plant grows. In colder parts of the United States, lift tubers after frost and store them dry over winter. If you’re looking for a dahlia that brings strong color, contrast, and steady performance, Dahlia ‘Maxime’ is a dependable choice that keeps the garden feeling bright well into fall.
