Description

Astrantia Pink Button, commonly known as Masterwort, is a lovely perennial for gardeners who like soft color, texture, and a natural cottage garden feel. It produces long lasting pale pink flowers with the classic Masterwort shape: tiny pincushion centers surrounded by delicate papery bracts. The flowers look detailed up close, but in the border they create a soft pink haze that blends beautifully with other perennials. This variety has a neat, clump forming habit with lobed green foliage and upright flower stems. It is easy to place in the front or middle of a perennial border, especially where the garden gets morning sun, filtered light, or partial shade. Astrantia Pink Button is especially useful for softening stronger colors and adding movement between bolder plants. Plant Astrantia Pink Button in full sun to partial shade. In warmer parts of the USA, it will perform best with afternoon shade and soil that stays evenly moist. It prefers moist, well drained soil and does not like to dry out for long periods. With the right conditions, it flowers through summer and brings weeks of color to the garden. This Masterwort is also a beautiful choice for cut flower gardens. The button like blooms work well in fresh arrangements and can also be dried. Bees and other pollinators visit the flowers, making it a good fit for wildlife friendly borders, cottage gardens, woodland edges, and naturalistic plantings. Astrantia Pink Button pairs beautifully with peonies, salvia, catmint, campanula, alliums, ferns, hostas, astilbe, and ornamental grasses. It is graceful without being fussy, colorful without being loud, and perfect for gardeners who want a softer, more layered planting style.

Astrantia Pink Button is a hardy perennial commonly known as Masterwort. Its botanical name is usually listed as Astrantia major Pink Button, and the cultivar is also associated with the name Noastone. It produces long lasting pale pink flowers above lobed green foliage. Plants usually bloom throughout summer, often from June into September, depending on climate and growing conditions. Astrantia Pink Button grows best in full sun to partial shade, with afternoon shade preferred in hotter regions. It likes moist, well drained soil and steady moisture during dry weather. Mature plants typically reach about 24 to 28 inches tall with a spread of around 18 inches. It is a strong choice for cottage gardens, perennial borders, pollinator gardens, woodland edges, and cut flower plantings.
