Description
Dahlia ‘Caproz Josephine’ is all about texture first, color second. This is a true fimbriata dahlia, which means the petals are finely split at the tips, almost like they’ve been lightly frayed. That detail changes the whole look of the flower. Instead of a smooth, full bloom, you get something softer, more feathery, with a sense of movement even when it’s completely still. The color starts with a creamy white to soft butter base, then picks up pink edging and fine streaking toward the tips. The pink isn’t heavy or solid. It sits lightly on the edges, sometimes more pronounced, sometimes barely there. Each bloom ends up a little different, which keeps the plant from ever looking uniform. Flowers are medium to large, usually in the five to seven inch range, with a full shape that still feels airy because of the split petals. Plants grow to around 32 to 40 inches tall and produce strong stems that hold the blooms well through the season. Like most dahlias, it flowers steadily from midsummer until the first frost.
In the garden, ‘Caproz Josephine’ works especially well when you want to break up heavier flower forms. It pairs naturally with softer tones like blush pinks, creams, and light apricots, but it also adds contrast next to more structured dahlias. The texture alone gives it a place in mixed plantings.
For cutting, this is a very useful variety. The fringed petals add detail to arrangements without needing a lot of extra filler. It brings a lighter feel compared to round, dense blooms and mixes easily with roses, ranunculus, and other dahlias.
Plant tubers in spring after the last frost, once the soil has warmed. Choose a sunny spot with well-drained soil and give plants enough room to develop. Staking early is recommended, especially in open or windy locations. In colder parts of the United States, lift tubers after the first frost and store them dry over winter.
If you’re looking for a dahlia that feels a bit less structured and a bit more natural, Dahlia ‘Caproz Josephine’ brings that softer, textured look without losing impact.
