Description
Dahlia ‘Double Jill’ has a softer presence than most yellow dahlias. It doesn’t shout. It glows. The blooms are full and rounded, with neatly layered petals that shift in color from the center outward. Warm golden yellow sits near the heart of the flower, gradually blending into creamy white and pale butter tones on the outer petals. Some blooms show a gentle apricot blush as they mature, especially in warmer light. It’s a quiet mix of colors that works with almost anything. Flowers are usually around four to five inches across and carried on strong, upright stems that make them easy to use in both the garden and the vase. Plants grow to about 30 to 36 inches tall and produce a steady run of blooms from midsummer through the first frost when regularly cut.
In the garden, Dahlia ‘Double Jill’ is one of those varieties that ties everything together. It softens stronger colors and complements lighter palettes without disappearing. It pairs naturally with pinks, peaches, whites, and even deeper reds where it acts as a buffer between tones. The rounded flower form adds structure without feeling heavy.
For cutting, this is a go-to. The stems are usable, the blooms last well, and the color blend makes it easy to combine with just about anything. It’s often the flower that makes an arrangement feel complete.
Plant tubers in spring after the last frost, once the soil has warmed. Choose a sunny spot with well-drained soil and give plants enough space to develop. Staking early is recommended to keep stems straight as the plant grows. In colder parts of the United States, lift tubers after frost and store them dry over winter.
If you’re looking for a dahlia that brings warmth without overpowering the rest of your planting, Dahlia ‘Double Jill’ is an easy and reliable choice.
