Description
Dahlia ‘Franz Kafka’ is one of those varieties that feels almost too perfect to be real. The blooms form tight, nearly flawless spheres in a vivid, clear pink that holds its color beautifully from the moment it opens until the last petal fades. Each flower is made up of neatly rolled petals arranged in a precise pattern, giving it that classic pompon shape. The blooms are smaller, usually around two to three inches across, but they make up for it in sheer quantity. Once the plant starts flowering, it produces a steady stream of these perfect little globes. Plants grow to about 32 to 40 inches tall with strong, upright stems that make this variety a favorite for cutting. The flowers sit cleanly above the foliage and last well in a vase, often outlasting larger, more delicate types.
In the garden, ‘Franz Kafka’ brings structure and rhythm. It works especially well when planted in groups, where the repetition of those round blooms creates a striking effect. It also mixes easily with softer forms, adding contrast without overpowering neighboring plants.
Plant tubers in spring after frost danger has passed, in full sun and well-drained soil. Provide support early, and keep harvesting stems to encourage even more blooms throughout the season.
If you are after a dahlia that is reliable, tidy, and endlessly productive, Dahlia ‘Franz Kafka’ is hard to beat.
