Description
This variety is built around contrast and structure rather than fullness. Each bloom has a single outer ring of broad petals in soft lilac to pink tones, often deepening toward a richer raspberry center. Right inside that outer ring sits the defining feature of a collarette dahlia: a smaller inner “collar” of short petals that frame an open, dark central eye dusted with golden pollen. That open center is not just decorative. It actively attracts bees and pollinators, making Skyfall one of those dahlias that adds life to the garden, not just color. The flowers are medium sized, usually around 4 inches across, held well above the foliage on a neat, upright plant that grows to roughly 2 to 3 feet tall. It forms a bushy, well-balanced clump that fits easily into borders, containers, or mixed plantings without taking over. From mid summer through the first frost, Skyfall keeps producing bloom after bloom. Because of its open form and lighter structure, it flowers freely and continuously, rather than putting energy into fewer, heavier blooms. It is one of those varieties that always seems to have something going on. In the garden, this dahlia brings a softer, more natural look compared to fully double types. It works especially well in looser plantings, cottage gardens, or mixed borders where you want movement and variation rather than uniformity. The color shifts slightly as the blooms mature, adding even more depth and interest over time. Plant the tubers in spring after the last frost in full sun and well drained soil. It establishes quickly and begins flowering within weeks, continuing right through late summer and fall. Like all dahlias, regular deadheading will keep the plant producing at its best. What makes Skyfall stand out is its structure. The layered collar, the open center, and the shifting tones give it a lighter, more dynamic feel than traditional dahlias. If you are looking for something that feels a bit more natural, pollinator friendly, and visually interesting up close, this is exactly that kind of plant.
