Description
Dahlia Zippity Do Da is one of those varieties that feels light, playful, and incredibly productive. It doesn’t rely on size to stand out. Instead, it delivers dozens of perfectly formed little blooms that keep the plant looking fresh and active all season. This is a true pompon dahlia, which means small, fully double flowers that form tight, rounded balls with neatly curved petals. The blooms are typically around 2 inches across, compact and precise, with that classic, almost geometric shape pompon dahlias are known for. The color sits in a soft but lively range. Most flowers open in a lilac pink to candy pink tone, often with a deeper raspberry or purple eye and subtle variation across the petals. Some blooms show a faint white touch toward the inner petal base, which adds dimension rather than a flat color. The overall effect is bright, cheerful, and slightly whimsical without feeling overly bold. Plants grow to about 3 to 3.5 feet tall with a strong, upright habit and glossy green foliage. It’s a vigorous grower, and that shows in how many flowers it produces. This is not a variety that gives you a few standout blooms. It gives you a constant stream. From mid summer through the first frost, Zippity Do Da flowers continuously. Because of its pompon form, it focuses on quantity and consistency, so the plant is always covered in blooms at different stages. It rarely looks finished or sparse, even late in the season. This is an excellent cut flower. The small, perfectly shaped blooms are ideal for bouquets, especially as fillers or for adding texture between larger flowers. They hold their shape well and bring that clean, rounded form that works in both structured and more natural arrangements. In the garden, it adds rhythm and repetition. Planted in groups, those small spheres create a soft, almost dotted effect through borders and mixed plantings. It pairs easily with everything from pastels to deeper tones, and because the flowers are smaller, it never overwhelms nearby plants. Like all dahlias, it thrives in full sun with well drained soil. Plant the tubers after the last frost, and it will establish quickly and begin flowering within weeks. It’s easy to grow, fast to produce, and very rewarding, even for beginners. What makes Zippity Do Da worth growing is its consistency and charm. It doesn’t try to be dramatic. Instead, it delivers clean form, steady blooms, and a color that stays easy to work with all season long. If you want a dahlia that fills space beautifully and keeps giving without much effort, this is one you’ll keep planting year after year.
